The difference between
ice cream and gelato

Ice cream and gelato's two main ingredients are both milk and cream, but it is the amount of each that results in differing desserts. As ice cream usually contains more cream than milk, gelato is made with a greater proportion of whole milk to cream. Egg also distinguishes the two desserts, our Original Recipe ice cream includes fresh eggs while the gelato does not contain this ingredient.
Ice cream and gelato differ
not only with ingredients but with the process as well. Gelato is churned much slower than ice cream, making the dessert creamier, more dense, and having less air than regular ice cream. At Riverside Dairy, we offer both gelato and original recipe ice cream flavors, along with different non dairy Italian Ice flavors.
When we say, "homemade" we really mean it. Our all natural mix ingredients are carefully selected. Pasteurized on site, marinated a minimum of twenty four hours, then run through our batch freezers. Many of our toppings and variegates are handcrafted by us and are added at this point. It immediately goes into our flash freezer to preserve the freshness until we deliver. Are you hungry for some dairy goodness yet?

I churn out three kind of different products.
The first is the Original Recipe that was started by Cecil Maxwell in 1953. It is the most truly authentic homemade texture as if you were hand cranking on the back porch on a hot summer day. The ingredients are the same as the old fashioned recipes with milk, cream, sugar, and fresh eggs. I can remember churning this ice cream when I was a kid with my grandpa down on the dairy farm. Serve it when it is starting to melt for the best tasting experience.

The next is our Gelato Style. Rich, creamy and very dense texture. Commercial ice cream in 3 gallon tubs weigh 13-14 pounds each. Our 2.5 gallon containers weigh 16 pounds which means you are not buying air from us! I then load it up with top quality add ins to make up over 60 delicious flavors.

My third product is "Sorbet or Italian Ice." It is the non-dairy offering for people who can not tolerate milk products. It is loaded with various fruit products to overwhelm your taste buds. The most popular flavors are Blood Orange, Lemon, Mango, Red Raspberry, and Wild Fruits.
